What is Your Back Pain Trying to Tell You?

Sometimes our bodies hurt because we move too much, and other times it is because we move too little. Pain is an alert from the body to make a change.

Our sports chiropractic approach helps educated patients on what is causing their back pain and what that pain is trying to tell them.

What Causes Back Pain?

The back is made up of bones, joints, muscles, tendons, and ligaments, all working closely to provide support and movement to your spine.

Reasons for back pain may include irritated joints, bulging discs, strained muscles, and injured ligaments.

Your back pain may be the result of a sports injury,  work injury, or from something as simple as bending over to tie your shoes.

Common causes of back pain include:

Frequently Asked Questions

Most frequent questions and answers about back pain

Is it ok to pop your own back?

Cracking your back is generally harmless, although not recommended. If you are having aches and pain it is better to get to the source of the issue by having a qualified healthcare professional exam you.

However, if you avoid using excessive force and are just moving your spine, self-adjusting isn’t likely to result in damage to your spine. Foam rolling, mobilizations, and stretches can safely provide relief. Check out our office YouTube channel or download this mobility guide for your thoracic spine.

Does strengthening your core help back pain?

It might! We often find that our chiropractic patients need some core strengthening exercises in addition to their in-office chiropractic adjustments. However, not all back pain is the same. Our sports chiropractic approach helps identify the weakest link and gets to the cause of your back pain, so you don’t waste time performing unnecessary exercises.

Do inversion tables help back pain?

Inversion tables may provide temporary relief of lower back pain. These devices work by providing traction and relieving the pressure on the spine. With that being said, Dr. Peters usually offers other exercises that provide longer-lasting relief and can be performed with little to no equipment.
