Chiropractic Frequently Asked Questions

Most frequently asked questions and answers

Yes! We are in-network with most major medical plans and most plans have chiropractic benefits. Our office staff can verify your insurance benefits prior to your first appointment. With that being said, our chiropractic office offers self-pay options for those without insurance.

Our chiropractic office does not have an X-ray unit.  This is by design because X-rays and advanced spinal imaging are rarely needed and add cost to the patient. In the event our history and physical examination indicate imaging being necessary we can refer to our medical colleagues or utilize other local imaging facilities. Check out this YouTube video!

In fact, The Choosing Widely Campaign, which focuses on eliminating unnecessary costs and procedures within the medical profession recommend:

“Avoid routine spinal imaging in the absence of clear clinical indicators for patients with acute low back pain of less than six (6) weeks duration.”

Chiropractors are doctors. A chiropractic education is an advanced degree known as a ‘Doctor of Chiropractic’ that includes an emphasis on diagnosis and treatment of conditions related to the musculoskeletal system (the muscles, ligaments, and joints of the spine and extremities) and the nerves that supply them.

In addition to his standard Doctor of Chiropractic degree, Dr. Peters has taken numerous continuing education classes to maximize diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions of the spine and extremities.

A referral is not necessary to utilize our chiropractic services. However, we often do receive medical referrals for treatment of headaches, neck pain, lower back pain, sciatica, and other conditions.

Research demonstrates Chiropractic patients experience:

  • Less likely to receive an opioid prescription
  • Reduced short term disability and pain
  • Reduced odds of surgery

We structure our office hours to best suit our patients’ busy schedules. Chiropractic appointments are available:

  • Early mornings
  • Lunch breaks
  • Evenings

It depends! Costs can vary based on insurance information and the condition being treated.

You can count on our office being upfront and transparent about the cost because we understand it’s part of any health decision. Research has continually demonstrated the cost-effectiveness of chiropractic for a variety of conditions.

Low back pain initiated with a doctor of chiropractic (DC) saves 20 to 40 percent on health care costs when compared with care initiated through a medical doctor (MD), according to a study that analyzed data from 85,000 Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) beneficiaries in Tennessee over a two-year span.

Not at OMNE Chiropractic! Our office focuses on delivering evidenced-based chiropractic treatment for musculoskeletal pain. We are a small business with ethical practices. Unfortunately, some other chiropractors make unsubstantiated claims about chiropractic and have suspect business practices.

Only if you want to. We discuss three chiropractic treatment tracks with patients:

Pain: Get an Answer

Performance: Meet the Demand

Maintenance: Stay on Top

Most patients come to us for pain relief and then have the option to switch to the performance or maintenance track.

No high-pressure sales, prepaying for visits you’ll never use, or never-ending treatment plans.

We do! Scoliosis is an asymmetry of the spine that often involves a lateral curvature of varying degrees. Dr. Peters has taken advanced coursework to better assess and treat patients with scoliosis. Chiropractic adjustments, manual therapy, and corrective exercise are all effective treatment options for patients with scoliosis.

Do you suffer from pain, limited mobility, or difficulty performing activities at your sport, job, or personal life? These are all great indicators that it might be time for chiropractic treatment.

People seek out chiropractic care for a variety of conditions. Most commonly people come to our office complaining of headaches, neck pain, lower back pain, sciatica, or sports injuries

In addition to pain, our sports chiropractic approach can help improve mobility and performance.

Chiropractic deniers have long touted that chiropractic is just placebo while failing to recognize the body of evidence growing that demonstrates chiropractic as a legit option for spine pain.

Check out a previous blog post: Is Chiropractic Placebo?

Chiropractic is one of the safest, non-invasive treatment options for all types of musculoskeletal pain. Research demonstrates that chiropractic is as safe or safer than comparable treatment options for headaches, neck pain, and back pain.

Some people have touted the link between chiropractic adjustments and stroke but this has been refuted in the scientific literature.

Either way, if you don’t want your neck adjusted, that’s cool with us. Here is  YouTube Video you should watch.

Our experience is that many medical doctors do recommend chiropractors to their patients suffering from neck pain and lower back pain.  In addition, recent clinical practice guidelines from medical organizations recommend the use of chiropractic for neck and lower back pain.

Our chiropractic office prides itself on serving patients of all ages and abilities with our unique sports chiropractic approach. Patients can expect top-notch treatment from an expanded toolbox tailored to their goals.

Chiropractic is safe and effective for all ages. Our chiropractic office focuses on the treatment of kids and youth athletes that are at least 12 years old (some exceptions made). We would be happy to refer you to a pediatric chiropractor if you are looking for chiropractic care for your kiddos.

Chiropractic is excellent during pregnancy. Chiropractic is a safe, effective, and non-pharmacological treatment option for pregnant moms. Many of the conditions that pregnancy can bring like lower back pain, sciatica, and neck pain are do well with chiropractic treatment.

During my pregnancy I had debilitating sciatic nerve pain and Dr. Peters was able to give me immediate relief and within a few short weeks I no longer had any sciatic nerve pain. Since then as I have been treated for lower back issues and I have been impressed with the support and treatment plan that Dr. Peters continues to provide.

A little soreness post-treatment can be normal, particularly early on. This doesn’t last longer than 8-12 hours and doesn’t always happen. Soreness can be relieved with some easy physical activity like a long walk.

No other specific recommendations except to avoid rushing back into activities too quickly or too aggressively. Chiropractic adjustments can often provide immediate pain relief but long-term functional improvement takes more time.

Our chiropractic office focuses on individualized treatment plans so there is no “One Size Fits All”. We have three tracks that help guide how often you should see a chiropractor.

Pain: Get An Answer

Performance: Meet the Demand

Maintenance: Stay on Top

The popping sound that occurs with a chiropractic adjustment is just an air bubble released with a change in pressure across the opposing joint surfaces.
